WALKATHON

As of Wednesday, April 17th our total pledges to date are less than $3770.00!!
 
Primary Grade in the lead is Gr.1
Intermediate Grade in the lead is Gr. 5
 

When all the pledged money is in we will have our announcement for the 1 Primary grade & 1 Intermediate grade with the highest amount of pledges that will win a ‘Special’ event.
Please feel free to check the Fundraising stars in the school lobby to see which grade is in the lead!
 
Our goal is $25,000.00!!
Please get those pledges in – deadline April 26th!

Walkathon Pledge Form 2019


Once the Walkathon is complete we will draw from all participants for the following:
 
Intermediate students: 1st draw Air Pods ** 2nd draw – Fitbit Inspire***3rd draw –child’s movie pack
Primary students: 1st draw a child’s scooter & Fitbit ** 2nd draw – a child’s scooter & Fitbit***3rd draw-child’s movie pack
 
Reminder:  Our Walkathon this year, once again will take place at the Crescent Beach Walkway (directions will be sent in a future newsletter).  Students will be dropped off at the Picnic Area near the Sailing Club between 8:30 and 9:00 am and picked up NO LATER than 12:00 noon. There will be NO lunch served after Walkathon this year!

STAFFING UPDATE FOR 2019-2020 SCHOOL YEAR
As you know, Mrs. Regush has been seconded to work at the Superintendent’s Office as Director of Learning Resources to support all 50 schools in CISVA for one year.  She is covering a medical leave for the current director.  After discussion with the Superintendent’s Office, Father Dion and the PEC, Mrs. Campagne has been appointed as acting principal for the coming year.  These new assignments will begin September 1st, 2019.
 
As well, in collaboration with the Superintendent’s Office, Father Dion and the PEC are pleased to announce the appointment of a team of Vice Principals for the 2019-2020 school year.  Mrs. Julie Gat, Mrs. Julie Lee and Mr. Dennis Pasta will be sharing this role.  We look forward to a strong team leading Star of the Sea School through another successful school year.  The vice principal assignments will also commence September 1, 2019.


GRADE 6 CHARITY FAIR – Wednesday, April 24th (PLEASE NOTE DATE CHANGE)
On Wednesday, April 24th, the Grade 6 classes are holding a Charity Fair at school. They are learning about complex global issues in the world and how as Catholics, through the social teachings of the church they help those in need. They are discovering multi-faceted ways to accomplish a goal, and with your support, we can help them succeed and make their targets.
Please see the attached flyer of all the stands available, and please come support us on that day!

TEEN MASS – Sunday, May 5 – 7:00 pm Good Shepherd Church
If you are in Grade 6 or older please consider participating in the Music ministry at Teen Mass.  We meet at 6:00pm in the practice room at the church.  The Knights of Columbus provide the delicious treats after Mass.  Please send an email to Mrs. Olsen at evono@starofthesea.ca to be added to the Teen Mass group email.  FYI – singing at Mass is a wonderful service opportunity.

DROP OFF-DROP IN TUESDAY COFFEE
Reminder that coffee is on every Tuesday morning at the Church Fireside Room.  Stop by for a quick cup of coffee and meet other SOS parents - we even have toys for younger siblings!  You can also say hello to our visiting priest Father Terry Larkin - please come and make him feel welcome! 

EDUCATION COMMITTEE ELECTIONS
There are three vacancies for the Parish Education Committee for a two year term commencing July 1, 2019.  Education Committee elections will be held after Masses on Saturday, May 25th and Sunday, May 26th, 2019. There will be an Advance Poll at the Parish office on Thursday, May 23rd  from 3:00 – 3:30 pm for those who will be away on election day. Those eligible to vote are Catholics who have reached the age of nineteen (19), residing within parish boundaries and are registered members of the parish.  It is the individual’s responsibility to ensure that his/her name is placed on the Voter’s List.  A person may vote in only one parish.  Also eligible to vote are non-Catholic spouses of all Catholics eligible to vote.
 
Eligible for nomination:  Those eligible to hold office as a member of a Parish Education Committee are practicing Catholics, approved by the Pastor, who are eligible to vote in that parish and have reached the age of twenty-one (21), with the following exceptions:
            - Teachers and Principal of the school;
            - Past employees of the school until three full calendar years have passed
               since the termination of employment;
            - Employees of the parish and/or school;
            - Spouses, children, parents, brothers and sisters of persons covered above;
            - All other Teachers/Principals employed by CISVA.
 
Eligible to nominate:   Only those persons eligible to hold office are eligible to nominate.
 
Nomination forms will be available at the Church and School offices.  Forms must be submitted in a sealed envelope addressed to the Nominating Committee by May 3rd at 5:00 pm.
