A LETTER FROM OUR PRINCIPAL:

Families of Star of the Sea School,

As we wind down the 2019/2020 school year I wanted to reach out to you to introduce myself and to offer you some thoughts regarding the next school year.

Introduction
My name is Jason Borkowski and I am pleased to become the Principal of Star of the Sea School in September 2020.  I have been teaching since 1998, first as a Grade Two teacher and then as a Grade Seven teacher.  I have been Principal at Cloverdale Catholic School since 2009.  As a Principal I put a great deal of value on relationships.  The trust that comes from positive relationships between staff, students, and parents is essential to creating a positive learning environment.  Most importantly, it is trust that lays the foundation for evangelization in a faith community.  I want to know everyone in the community so we can grow together in faith.
I’m really looking forward to telling you more about myself and getting to know you and your families in the months ahead.  If you want to get to know me and some of the work I have done over the past 3 months, please visit my blog www.catholicprincipal.wordpress.com, my YouTube channel, or see my interview on Salt & Light Television from last week.

September 2020
The Province of British Columbia has a Five Stage plan for the re-opening of schools. We are currently in Stage Three, which includes optional participation in in-class instruction and online learning for all students.  It is possible that in September 2020 we will still be in some form of Stage 3.  If that is the case, our staff and students will have learned from the past few months and “hit the ground running in September.”  Our online platforms will be fully engaged, all staff will be on-site full-time, and our school website and social media platforms will be active in providing quality educational opportunities and a sense of community.
The more likely (and hopeful) scenario for September 2020 is that we are in Stage Four.  This stage includes full-time and full-class instruction for students in elementary school.  If this is the case, measures will be taken to maximize physical distancing and personal hygiene.  We will take every reasonable measure to provide a high-quality, safe, caring, and personal learning experience.
The Ministry of Education has informed us that they will know what stage we will be in for September by August 20th.  Whichever stage we are in, we will have a solid plan in place from the very first day of school.

Conclusion
Thank you for your commitment, cooperation, and support of Star of the Sea School over the past three months.  Please be assured of my continued prayers.

Sincerely,
Mr. Jason Borkowski
Principal
